Lazy Film Critic reviews...
I know I've been a little behind lately. I'll be sure to get my reviews up for Joe, Under the Skin & Oculus as soon as I get the chance to see them (maybe Transcendence if I'm really desperate.), but for now, here's a really cool movie from 2011 starring Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine.
Alan Tudyk & Tyler Labine in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil |
The main plot of this film is really a satire of modern horror. It's about these two redneck type misfit guys, named Tucker and Dale, who go to stay at their summer house and chill. However, a group of twenty somethings happen to be camping nearby, and through a few major misunderstandings, the college kids become convinced that Tucker & Dale are horror movie type killers.
Easily, my favourite part of this film are the two protagonists, Tucker & Dale. They're very likable characters, they have amazing back & forth. They're also both serious misfits in a funny and likable way. And seeing these two guys in this whole misunderstanding is some of the funniest situational comedy you'll see in a good long time.
Alan Tudyk as Dale |
Another great thing about this movie is that it manages to mix in a few decent horror elements. Granted, this is more a horror comedy, but in terms of most modern horror films it's certainly one of the better ones. I think the reason some scenes are more intense than in say, Sinister, is that Tucker & Dale are such likable characters. When Ethan Hawke is close to dying, it's less intense because you're not as invested, because those characters aren't likable enough for you to get engaged. But, by giving the protagonists an absurd amount of likability, the climax of this film is just that much better.
Final Rating
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a hilarious satire on mainstream horror film cliches and on just the genre in general. It can get a little overly violent for some people, but other than that, this is an awesome and seriously funny movie. I highly recommend you go find it on netflix, or get it on dvd. Just, find a way to watch this movie, it'll be well worth your time.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil: 5/5
