February is over tomorrow, and so-far it hasn't been a particularly amazing year, aside from Kingsman, one of the best movies in years. With February ending, we're moving into March, and moving ever closely towards Summer movie season. So, until then, here are some of the movies I'm looking forward to, that coming this month.
March 6th
Chappie
Directed by Neill Blomkamp
Stars Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Hugh Jackman, & Sigourney Weaver
I loved District 9, it's still one of my favorite science fiction movies of all time. And despite what everyone else said about it, I loved Elysium. It wasn't as creative and lacked as much meaning as District 9, but I still enjoyed it. Neill Blomkamp is currently one of my favorite directors working today, so I can't wait to see Chappie.
Unfinished Business
Stars Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco, & Tom Wilkinson
When I say Vince Vaughns name on the poster, it initially put me off. Not because I don't like Vince Vaughn, I just don't like some of the movies he's been in recently. And I'll admit, Vince Vaughn isn't the selling point here, it's Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson. These two guys look hilarious in this movie, so that's what I'm looking forward to seeing here.
March 13th
Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter
Stars Rinko Kikuchi
I'm a fan of Fargo, for those who have met me, you'll know that's no secret. This movie is based on a true story about how this jaded Japanese woman supposedly (I say supposedly because there's a lot of mystery surrounding the story) found a copy of Fargo, thought that it was real, and became convinced that there was a stash of money outside of Brainard. I don't know much about the movie other than that, but that premise alone is enough to catch my attention.
March 20th
The Gunman
Stars Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, & Ray Winstone
It seems like the new "thing" in Hollywood for aged actors in their 50s to do an action movie where they happen to be total badasses, despite their age. This whole trend comes from Liam Neeson being in Taken, and ever since a bunch of other directors have tried to do what Taken did. So, it's only appropriate that the director of Taken gets a different old actor (in this case Sean Penn) and makes him a badass.
March 27th
Get Hard
Stars Will Ferrell & Kevin Hart
Will Ferrell is funny, I love his style of humor, even if it's not what most would call "intellectual". I also happen to love Kevin Hart as a comedian, I think he's one of the funniest people on the planet. What Get Hard has done is put these two comedic powerhouses and put them in one movie, which I have no doubt will be hilarious (even if it's also not exactly "intellectual").
Best of February 2015: Kingsman: The Secret Service
I'd been waiting to see this movie for such a long time after first hearing about it, and after waiting almost a year, it did not disappoint. Matthew Vaugh delivered what may be his best film yet in the form of an awesome, action packed, savagely entertaining, and hilarious spy film. Kingsman is a great spy film because it's like an incredibly violent and profane version of a classic spy film, which shows that anything can be made better by not caring about what critics and Fox News says about your movie. Kingsman is the best movie of the year so far, and it'll probably stay that way for a long, long time.
