Jason Bourne Movie Review

Article by Gabe Zia

Lazy Film Critic Movie Reviews
Jason Bourne
So after a 10 year hiatus, Bourne is finally back in Paul Greengrass's Jason Bourne! The film is set roughly ten years after the events of Ultimatum, in which Bourne comes out of his hiding in Greece to continue his hunt for the truth, despite having regained most of his fragmented memory, along with a kind of Snowden-esque sub-plot. Alongside Matt Damon, the film also stars Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Riz Ahmed, and Vincent Cassell.
Like any good reboot should, this film capitalizes on the fact that this is a Bourne movie, and having Matt Damon return to the role is utterly fantastic. I don't mention it a lot, but I'm a huge fan of the Bourne trilogy, Matt Damon is one of my favorite current actors thanks to those movies. So seeing him in the role again, and kicking ass as usual, it's a genuine breath of fresh air. And as usual, he completely owns the role. The rest of the cast is great too, but... Damn it's just good to see Damon as Bourne again!
And of course another thing that made two thirds of the Bourne trilogy and this film great is Paul Greengrass. The dude is a master of gritty, realistic, but always intense and exciting action sequences. And this is a stunt-heavy movie, every action sequence here has a really impressive stunt. He's also great at directing really intense non-action sequences, like he can make a scene of just two people talking really intense, which just adds to this movies experience. If you're like me, and stunt-heavy action sequences are your jam, you're sure to like this movie.
However, I feel as though I have to address the elephant in the room. Now usually this is where I bring in the major deal-breaker of the movie, however that's not the case here. No, here I want to talk about the majority of reviews for this movie - in particular the one major complaint - that it's "just another Bourne movie". I bring this up because it seems to be that for years any time Matt Damon or Paul Greengrass came up in conversation, it quickly turned to speculating as to whether or not there'd be another Jason Bourne movie. And now we have one, and it's awesome. It's all the gritty, realistic, espionage badassery we've all been asking for - but now suddenly that's an issue? I don't get it. My point is, don't listen to Rotten Tomatoes on this one. If you like Bourne movies, this one is just as awesome as the last three, so don't let the needless negativity stop you.

Final Rating
Jason Bourne is one of the coolest action movies of the year, it knows what it is and it is everything it needed to be. It's smart, it has great action sequences, amazing stunts, and is intense Bourne the way we wanted him. It's not very different from the trilogy, but to me that's nothing but a good thing. I highly recommend ignoring negative criticism and going to see this movie!
