Deadpool Movie Review

Lazy Film Critic Movie Reviews
Deadpool
Deadpool is the latest in the very long line of Marvel comic based films, this time around following Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool, an anti-hero seeking revenge and redemption. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as the fan favorite "Merc with a Mouth", as well as Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, and Gina Carano. So, with so many high hopes for a Deadpool movie, the real question is whether or not it delivers.
Now going into Deadpool, I didn't really know much about the character (beyond the research I did) (and by "research", I mean asking my friends who knew anything about the character). And from what I know, this movie does a pretty good job at capturing the essence of Deadpool. The humor in this movie is a perfect balance of crude, kind of obvious humor, and absolutely genius comedic timing and delivery. And it's really due mostly to the brilliance of the script, and being it's from the same writers of Zombieland, that's not all that surprising.
However, Deadpool is also an action movie, and it's a damn good one at that. The action is filmed really well, there's no shaky cam (a trend that's starting to disappear, thank god), and it's also really engaging action. The movie has more of a lean towards a fast-paced, somewhat martial arts style of action. It's entertaining to watch, it keeps your attention, and above all, it's as refreshing as it always is to see really well directed and well choreographed action.
Another thing that's really great about Deadpool is a quality I don't see very often, but when I do, it's always a great feeling. This movie knows what it is. Now I don't mean that in the way that Deadpool breaks the fourth wall, I mean this movie doesn't try to be something it's not. It's like Dredd or Olympus has Fallen in the sense that it doesn't try to be special. It knows it's a crude action comedy, so it's the best crude action comedy it can be. And in not attempting to be special, that kind of makes it even better. Now granted, this means that there's a lot of room for improvement, but it's forgivable considering how great everything else in this movie is.

The Score
Deadpool is one of the best movies of 2016 so-far, and it's something that I recommend almost everyone go see. It's got great action, and some of the funniest moments I've seen in a while. Now, as a personal note, if you have kids under the age of like, 15 and they want to see this movie... Yeah, don't do it. This isn't a normal superhero movie, it's violent, it's graphic, it's sometimes gratuitous, but if that's what you're looking for then look no further.
