Best & Worst of Bill Paxton

Article by Gabe Zia
It's the last weekend of October here, and so we've got a busy week ahead. I've got Halloween movie week coming up, hopefully a wide release of Dear White People, Birdman, & The Guest, as well as Nightcrawler & Horns. Of those two, Nightcrawler is more likely to be released, so I'm gonna talk about one of the films stars, Bill Paxton.
I couldn't find a still of Bill Paxton in Nightcrawler, so here's a still of him in Near Dark.
For best, there is a long list of options here. This guy has been in a lot of really good and really well made films in his career. There are a few obvious picks, such as Twister or Apollo 13, and there are some of his other roles people might not think of off the top of their head, such as Edge of Tomorrow or Near Dark. However, for my pick, I'm going with the role that really started his career, which is Hudson in Aliens.
"Game over man, game over!"
Hudson was (and still is) one of the best supporting characters ever. He's funny, he's witty, but still strangely human and a relatable character. He's not exactly the nicest member of the crew, but he's one of the members who you relate to the most, and one you remember walking out of the film. It also helps that he happens to have some of the best lines in the film. And Paxton plays this character to perfection, and it all comes together in one of the best supporting characters ever made.

For my pick for worst, there's also quite a few films to pick from. I could go with Thunderbirds, or maybe 2 Guns, but I'm not going to do that. Once again, this weeks pick for worst is a seriously awful film, being last years The Colony.
When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I already knew it was going ot be bad. However, the film never actually showed in any theatre near movie, and kind of slipped over my head. Until a few weeks ago, when it was on tv, and I thought "oh right, this movie. Well, I guess I'll watch it. It can't be that bad". In the words of Thorin Oakenshield from The Hobbit movies "Never have I been so wrong". This film is downright terrible, one of the worst movies of that year for sure. Everything in the film looks incredibly cheesy, to the point where it even calls to question how the film had a budget of 16 million dollars. Seriously, if hollywood is willing to put that much money in to something like this, we should have a Bioshock movie by now.
