Best and Worst of Sam Rockwell

This weekend we have a couple of films, we've got Aaron Paul in Need for Speed, Jake Gyllenhall in Enemy, but today I'm going to talk about who is in my opinion the most underrated actor in the film industry, Sam Rockwell for his new film Better Living Through Chemistry.

Sam Rockwell in Better Living Through Chemistry

He's one of the best actors today, and one of the most versatile. Although he's been sort of typecast as that quirky goofy guy (and for admittedly a good reason, he plays that role well) with films such as Seven Psychopaths and The Way, Way Back, he's shown with films like The Green Mile and Moon he can play serious dramatic roles if the film calls for it.

Speaking of which, my personal favourite Sam Rockwell film is Moon.

Sam Rockwell in Moon

Here's the thing about his performance in this film, it's simply one of the greatest performances ever captured on film. He perfectly crafts this character and plays the role brilliantly. I say this because it's two people. If you haven't seen the film, it's about an astronaut who finds himself on the moon. And I don't mean he finds spiritual meaning in himself, I mean he literally finds an injured and dying version of himself on the moon.

The amount of creativity in this film is astounding.
The whole time I was watching this film the first time, I was just thinking to myself "Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.", because this film is a work of genius. And Rockwell plays these characters so well, by having them be very similar, but just enough subtle difference to know they're not the same. That is something that the oscars should've at the very least given him a nomination for.

For worst, it was less difficult finding his worse. G-Force.

Good god, I hate this film.
I hate this film so much, the action is lame, the jokes are forced, and the idea behind it is just dumb. And it really bothers me that Sam Rockwell was in this film, like it gets to me on a psychological level. Because here's one of the best actors in hollywood, and he is put on the level of talking hamsters and fart jokes. I'm going to assume he had to pay off some debt or wanted to do some renovations to his house or something, because I can't think of any other reason besides money why someone would voluntarily put this film permanently on their résumé.
