Steve Jobs Movie Review

Lazy Film Critic Movie Reviews
Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs is the latest biographical drama following... Well, Steve Jobs. Now, this Aaron Sorkin written Steve Jobs movie has been kind of in development hell for a while now, with a few directors coming and going, and a lot of lead actors signing onto the project only to leave shortly after. So, after the film went through Leonardo Dicaprio and Christian Bale, they finally landed Michael Fassbender for the lead, and Danny Boyle to direct. The film also stars Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels, and Seth Rogen.
One of the big things I was looking forward to seeing in this movie is Michael Fassbenders performance as Steve Jobs, and this guy was incredible in this movie. This is one of those really rare performances where, while you're watching the movie, you don't see the actor. There's no makeup, it's all in the performance that the fact that this is an actor playing a role isn't something you notice anymore. And Fassbender absolutely nails this performance, he should absolutely be nominated for an oscar for this movie.
Something I really loved about this movie is how different it was from anything I had seen, this is not the average biopic. This movie tells the story of Steve Jobs by showing him at three different points in time, each point he's preparing for some big press show. The rest of the story, how Steve Jobs came to be Steve Jobs, him being fired, all that stuff, it's all shown through flashbacks. And what's amazing about this is how simple this movie is as a result of the way the films story is set-up. It also really helps in having the movie maintain an engaging pace and tone throughout.
Something that really surprised me with this movie is how fast it went by. Most two hour biographical films feel around two hours, but the way this movie is written, it feels way shorter than that. And the two guys who've gotta take credit for that are Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle. Aaron Sorkins script is really tight, the dialogue is fantastic, and the scenes feel amazingly cut together. This tight, fast feel also goes hand in hand with Danny Boyles direction, which gives the scenes this incredibly real feeling to them, and it makes everything flow perfectly.

Final Rating
Okay, so from what I've read, this movie isn't doing all that well in the box office. If any of you are planning to see a movie this weekend, make sure it's this one. Steve Jobs is a perfect film from start to finish, from the superb performances, to the beautiful cinematography, to the amazing direction. This is by no means a boring or slow movie, in fact I felt like it could have easily had an extra half hour and I wouldn't have minded or even noticed. I'd highly recommend seeing Steve Jobs as soon as possible, because it's one of the best movies of the year.

  1. Great review. This is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Fassbender nails this performance and elevates everyone in the film with him.
