The Last Witch Hunter Movie Review

Lazy Film Critic Movie Reviews
The Last Witch Hunter
The Last Witch Hunter is an action/fantasy film starring Vin Deisel and Rose Leslie. The film follows this witch hunter, who was cursed by a witch to live forever, and has live for a couple hundred years hunting witches. As you can probably guess, there's an evil witch, and this immortal guy has to stop her. There's really not much more too it than that.
First off, before I get into everything about this movie, I have to address some things. Firstly, from all critical standpoints, this isn't a good movie. Mainly in the way its written, the story of this movie is about as generic as they come, and the characters all fall flat in every way possible. As for the acting, this movie has some pretty talented people in it, and they do an okay job, but they're not given much to work with in terms of writing.
Another big issue I had with this movie was the overuse of CGI. Part of the reason I'm so hyped for the new Star Wars is how well it blends CGI and practical effects. But The Last Witch Hunter is just constant CGI throughout, and that wouldn't really be an issue if the effects were good, which they're not. The green screen effects are really bad, and the effects added into a scene look super fake. The action in this movie looks cool, but it's heavily detracted from obvious CGI characters and props.
However, all that being said, I enjoyed The Last Witch Hunter. Not as a movie or even an action film, but this movie is probably the best guilty pleasure in a while. While I can't say with a straight face that this is a good movie, nor will I give it a good review, this is kind of an odd case seeing as how oddly entertaining this movie is. While where it's entertaining isn't exactly where I feel like the director wanted it to be entertaining, I got a kick out of this movie regardless.

Final Rating
Really, I have to give The Last Witch Hunter some credit. It may be a bad movie, from all accounts, but at the same time it's a very entertaining film. The acting is cheesy, the story is generic, the first 40 minutes of this movie is hilariously straight faced exposition, and the CGI is at some points laughable. However, it's also one of the most entertaining guilty pleasure films in a while, so I have to give it some points for that and that alone. If you're looking for a good guilty pleasure film, The Last Witch Hunter is the right film for you.
