Game of Thrones ~ Top 10 Characters Who Could Die (S6)

Article by Gabe Zia
The topic of death on Game of Thrones is one that gets tossed around a lot. Some feel as though George R.R. Martin picks characters out of a hat, others feel as though he does some kind of sadistic calculation to decide exactly which character he can kill to cause the most pain to the reader/audience. So, with season 6 only a few hours away, I've decided to take a moment to discuss the Top 10 Characters I think Could Die in this season. Granted, this is Game of Thrones, just about everyone is fair game here. Keep in mind, I don't think all 10 of these characters are going to die, I'm just saying if someone is going to die (it's Game of Thrones that will absolutely happen), I think it will likely be one of these ten people.

SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASONS 1-5.
ALSO POSSIBLY SEASON 6 IF I GET THESE RIGHT, BUT KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ENTIRELY SPECULATION, I COULD BE WAY OFF, AS I WAS WITH THE LAST... EVERY SEASON, REALLY.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

#10
Rickon Stark
Who might do it: Night's King, some White Walker
As far as characters who contribute nothing to the show go... Yeah, Rickon is pretty high up there. And unlike characters like Sansa who have changed dramatically over the course of the show, Rickon has done a whole lotta nothing. It's possible he could turn it around in this season, but if I'm being honest I find that about as likely as Hodor reciting a passage from Hamlet. His death would actually make a great motivation for Bran to start using his crazy super powers all the time, and would get rid of an unnecessary character.

#9
Theon Greyjoy
Who might do it: Ramsay Bolton
I feel as though this is really the only way to finish Theons story arc. His arc has been among the most interesting of the show (right behind Tyrion and Jaime Lannister). I feel like before he dies he's going to do something cool to really redeem his character from all the stuff he's done over the course of the show. Whether or not he'll manage to come back to reality before this happens, that I don't know. We've seen some stuff with where Sansas arc is gonna go, but not much where Theons is gonna go.

#8
Petyr Baelish
Who might do it: Roose Bolton, Danerys, Sansa
This could be one of those Red Wedding type of "misplaced trust" moments, where Baelish decides to try to get his hands into the wrong kingdom. This has kind of been his thing over the course of the show, quietly pulling the rug under everyones feet, and yet everyone seems to trust him for no reason. He already did it to the Starks, then the Lannisters, then the Tully's, and now he's in cahoots with the Boltons. I think it's either going to be Roose Bolton, or the next lord he tries to pull something over one (maybe even Danaerys) who'll catch onto his antics and have him killed.

#7
Lancel Lannister & the High Sparrow
Who might do it: Franken-Mountain, Cersei
It's a general rule in Game of Thrones that you just do not mess with the Lannisters, because they will hit right back in more ways than one. Usually involving violent wedding murder and just straight up decapitation, but I digress. And of the bad things people have done to Cersei, forcing her to walk naked through King's Landing is probably right up there with that one time Petyr and Olenna murdered Joffrey right in front of her. And unlike Petyr and Olenna, Cersei knows who did this to her, both literally (High Sparrow) and figuratively (Lancel). So yeah, they're both gonna die, probably at the hands of Franken-Mountain.

#6
Alliser Thorne
Who might do it: Night's King, some White Walker, Sam, Tormund, Ghost, there's a lot of options here
This isn't a prediction, this isn't a thing I think is gonna happen because of writing and storytelling. This is pure cathartic wish fulfillment, this man needs to die. Hell, I would take Joffrey coming back from the dead and being the same Joffrey as he was before if it meant this Iago jerk bit the dust, preferably at the hands of king White Walker himself just to add some dramatic irony to the whole thing. I've never at any point in this show wanted someone to die more than this guy, even Walder Frey is better in my books. Okay, that's a stretch - but you get what I'm saying.

#5
The Three-Eyed Raven
Who might do it: Night's King, some White Walker
It wouldn't be a Game of Thrones article if I didn't at some point say "winter is coming", so... Winter is coming. This show is revving up, and according to the writers, season 7 is likely gonna be the last season, meaning it'll probably be all out dragon/white walker/westeros war in perfect Lord of the Rings-ian fashion. We've gotta get Brans magic training bit out of the way, so that he can be a part of the grand finale, and what better way to wrap up that bit quickly than by killing the Obi-Wan to his Luke Skywalker?

#4
Ramsay Bolton
Who might do it: Sansa
Again, wish fulfillment. I want to see this bastard die, not because I'm a sadist, but because he's a psychotic jerk who absolutely has it coming. And, much like Alliser, I have a few people in mind who could do it, but I specifically want it to be Sansa. Normally I'd say Theon, but as I said earlier, I think Ramsay is gonna kill Theon. And maybe in doing so, he'd give Sansa the opportunity to kill Ramsay herself, thus getting the ultimate vengeance on this psycho rapist.

#3
Jorah Mormont
Who might do it: Himself, Greyworm
We all know this one is going to happen, in fact I am astonished it didn't happen at the end of the last season. The guy's been bitten/scaled/I don't know what, he's lucky to have lasted this long. From the looks of it, what he has is the game of thrones equivalent of a zombie bite (except for the actual zombies that are on this show). Chances are, he's gonna say what he wants to say to Danaerys, and then off himself.

#2
Trystane Martell
Who might do it: Cersei, Franken-Mountain
My #2 and my #1 actually go hand in hand with a theory I've got about what's gonna happen in the season finale. And I think either #1 or #2 is going to happen. At the end of the last season, Ellaria Sand killed Myrcella Baratheon, Cerseis daughter. And, much like the Sparrow thing, I think Cerseis revenge is going to be a prevalent theme in this season. I don't think she's going to kill Ellaria (although it would make sense in a literal fashion), Cersei is far more cunning and cruel, and with a wicked sense of irony, and wouldn't waste a second to kill Trystane if it meant truly getting her revenge on Dorne and the Martell family the way she wants to. However, this would trigger a war between Casterly Rock and Dorn, and could result in another war between the seven kingdoms, and in the time of dragons and white walkers, I see only one way that this kind of total war is avoided for the greater good.

#1
Cersei Lannister
Who might do it: Jaimie Lannister
Okay, so here's what I think is going to happen near the end of this season, it's just a personal theory of mine, think of it what you will. Jaimie has expanded on a character so much over the course of the show, and I personally don't think Jaimie is just going to allow an all-out Westeros-ian war. And I think Jaimie is smart enough to know that there's only one way to avoid this, he has to bring an end to Cerseis insane, Macbeth style power rampage, and I think he's also smart enough to know there's only one way to do it. I also know that there are bigger things to worry about in the next two seasons than Cersei going mad with power and the entire political underworld of Westeros, and Cersei dying in this kind of Shakesperian tragedy kind of way would be the perfect way to bring about the total Lord of the Rings style finale.
