So the end of August is looming closer and closer by the day, so I decided to take the time to talk about some of the big releases next month. We're getting into Oscar season, so expect a lot of interesting releases in the coming months.
September 2nd
Morgan
I'm always down for an intersting sci-fi horror film, and in the year 2016 it seems like horror has been on a good run so-far. Along with a very talented cast and a seemingly minimalist setting, Morgan looks like a creepy sci-fi horror with a unique style, so it's one of the more highly anticipated movies of the month.
The Light Between Oceans
I read the book this movie is based on about a year ago, and I'm not gonna lie it made me sob like a little baby. And seeing as how I've usually personally found movies more effective (the combination of cinematography and score helps in my opinion) at being horribly depressing, I'm guessing this movie will be one of the more upsetting films of the year. Plus, all that's combined with the fact that it's directed by Derek Cianfrance, hands down one of the most depressing directors who has ever lived, just look at Blue Valentine or Place Beyond the Pines.
September 16th
Snowden
If you know me in real life, you know that I personally consider Edward Snowden a total hero, and the story surrounding Snowden and the NSA leaks is one that I find personally very interesting. So those two factors combined with Oliver Stone directing it with an all-star cast has lead Snowden to being a big Oscar buzz contender this year.
Blair Witch
So, for the longest time it seemed like Adam Wingards latest horror film was simply called "The Woods", a found footage horror movie set in the middle of a forest. So, right off the bat, it seemed like a great homage to The Blair Witch Project. Little did we know that it would later be revealed that the film was actually a new Blair Witch movie, which I gotta say is one helluva marketing strategy. If the movie is half as good as its marketing, then it's definitely worth looking forward to.

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children - September 2016 Highlight
So just from the trailer for this movie, it certainly looks kind of weird (peculiar almost). I like fantasy films, and this one seems to have a heavy lean towards Neil Gaiman-esque imagery. And as a fan of Gaiman, a film heavily leaning towards his style is a welcome sight. It also helps that it has an interesting premise, it's kind of like X-Men with some darker elements, which is something I'm totally down for. Plus, it's worth mentioning that Jane Goldman is probably my favorite writer working today so it helps that she wrote the screenplay for this movie, her scripts are always outstanding (as shown in Kick-Ass, The Debt, Kingsman, and Stardust).
